Former chip leader Timofey “Trueteller” Kuznetsov’s momentum in the 2016 Super High Bowl came to an abrupt end while the underrated Matt Berkey sized control of the chip lead on Day 2.
Berkey put in a dominant performance on Day 2 of the $300k buy-in tournament and finished with 2.8 million chips, more than twice his nearest competitor.
The rest of the pack is relatively close together with Erik Seidel (1.29m), Dan Shak (1.24m), Jason Mercier (1.2m) all within a breath of each other.
With just 16 players left the final table (and money bubble) is looming.
Negreanu, Rast, Colman Hit Rail
Day 2 of the 2016 Super High Roller Bowl began with 35 players but that number was shaved all the way down to 16, which meant a ton of eliminations.
Daniel Negreanu, Dan Colman, Ben Tollerene, Pratyush Buddiga and Dominik Nitsche were among the high rollers who ended up busting.
Reigning SHRB champ Brian Rast also fell out of contention in the later portion of the evening.
There are still plenty of notables in the field, however, including Phil Hellmuth who finished with 936,000 chips.
Hellmuth had the pleasure of watching his Golden State Warriors win a game seven in the NBA Western Conference Finals while punching his ticket to Day 3 of the SHRB.
The Poker Brat let out a cry of “Woooo! Warriors!” in the middle of play, after the Warriors locked up a return trip to the finals.
The always entertaining Phil Laak also made it to Day 3 finishing with 936,000 chips.
Perkins Still Live for Super High Roller Title
Businessman and recent prop bet king Bill Perkins also survived with 367,000 chips.
A win in the SHRB would go a long ways to paying off his recent prop bets against Dan Bilzerian and Brian Rast.
Antonio Esfandiari and Jeff Gross were both on hand to cheer for their buddy as he secured his seat for Day 3.
Action resumes tomorrow at 5 p.m. ET on Twitch and then CBS Sports from 8 p.m. onward.
