Over a month ago, Ben Keeline helped organize a $250 last longer bet for the Colossus II.
Today Keeline won that bet… along with $1,000,000 and a WSOP gold bracelet.
A part-time driver for Uber in Boulder, CO, Keeline outlasted all 21,613 entries to outright win the record-setting tournament. The Colossus II was the second biggest live tournament ever held (surpassed only by the original Colossus).
“I’m elated," said Keeline after winning.
“I can’t even think about what this means, not just the money, but the gold bracelet. This is something I could not have imagined would happen just a few days ago. Sure, I thought it could happen and I thought I could win if I played well, but to have it go the way it went, well – that’s more than I express how I feel right now. It’s going to take some time for this to all sink in.”
Jiri Horak Takes 2nd
The tournament ended in surprising fashion after an extended heads-up match between Keeline and the Czech Republic’s Jiri Horak.
After trading the chip lead several times Keeline finally got it all-in with J♣ J♠ to Horak’s A♦ 9♣.
The board ran out 9♠ 7♥ 3♠ 6♠ A♠, which momentarily led both players to believe they had won before Horak spotted the spade flush and realized he would have to settle for second place.
Meanwhile Keeline’s rather boisterous rail went crazy as he scooped the tournament for $1 million.
The Colossus II may have been slightly smaller than the inaugural Colossus in 2015 but Keeline actually walked away with a bigger payout thanks to a more top-heavy structure this year.
This year's edition also attracted players from a total of 89 different countries.
