Daily 3-Bet: #CampEpic, 2-Hand Matusow, HuffPo Poker Fail

The PokerListings Daily 3-Bet is a pure heart, an LED-covered sit-bike and one life-changing, love-filled ride across the afternoon poker news playa.

Got a tip for a future edition of the 3-Bet? Drop us a line in the comments.

Today in the 3-Bet we find a boon for Burning Man c/o Camp Epic, Mike Matusow blasts off in the WSOP Tag Team and a HuffPo writer gets it all terribly wrong.

1) CampEpic BBQ Boon

A cool, extra twist from the amazing performances of both Brian Rast and Justin Bonomo in the $50k Players Championship?

The two attend the annual Burning Man ritual in the Black Rock Desert together as part of "Camp Epic" with fellow pros Antonio Esfandiari, Jeff Gross, Liv Boeree, Igor Kurganov, Max Altergott and more.

"Camp Epic" dives in wholeheartedly to the Burning Man ethos and, besides their spirited participation in the festival, also put together a massive free barbecue for fellow Burners.

While money is far from the point of Burning Man we expect the $2m the two earned last night at the $50k PPC final table will make this summer's burn a bit extra special for those attending.

It also might be time for a few more poker players to consider getting in to the Burning Man spirit, as it's clearly benefitted both in a multitude of ways - not the least of which in their poker results.

Pretty strong showing for our @burningman #campepic with @tsarrast and @JustinBonomo heads up for @WSOP GOLD! http://pic.twitter.com/39Ghq4f23c

2) Team Hellmuth/Cantu/Matusow a Bust

As expected the WSOP Tag Team event has been a delight to rail with hundreds of interesting teams and great stories emerging.

Jonathan Little's parents earning their first WSOP cash is a highlight, but there are plenty of other cool things happening as friends, family, siblings and pros all take a stab at a bracelet together.

130 teams return at noon for Day 2 today headed by the team of Vladimir Geshkenbein/Tobias Zeigler and you can follow all the action right here in the WSOP live updates.

One team that won't be joining them? Team Phil Hellmuth/Brandon Cantu/Mike Matusow, who apparently left Matusow at the wheel for 90 seconds too long:

1 Funny story about my team in @WSOP Team event. @brandoncantu was playing, and @TheMouthMatusow INSISTED on playing 2 hands (both blinds)

— phil_hellmuth (@phil_hellmuth) July 7, 2016

2 Mikey had just busted Stud/8 & on hands and knees, "pls let me play" Cantu started joking, "Now don't go broke Mikey, it's only 2 hands"

— phil_hellmuth (@phil_hellmuth) July 7, 2016

3 Cantu leaves for 90 seconds, and Mikey comes over and says, "I busted." Cantu thinks he was joking, but no. Mikey QQ on first hand vs AK

3) The Hideous Problem with Not Understanding

We've seen some pretty egregious mainstream media hack jobs on poker over the years but today's Huffington Post trainwreck called "6 Hideous Problems with TV Poker" might be the pinnacle.

ESPN Cameras
TV poker isn't perfect, but deserves better than that.

We're still trying to make sense of it - particularly just whom and what the writer is referring to with this:

"Making it infinitely worse, the producers have chosen an attractive young woman to conduct these mindless interviews.

"And just when you thought it couldn’t get any more manipulative and phony, the producers saw fit to 'class up' the whole enterprise by making this woman interviewer a Brit—to make her someone who speaks with a very pronounced English accent. It’s enough to make you swear off poker."

The rest is as head-scratching as you might imagine. If you're looking for a way to destroy all your hope in the potential for mainstream viewers to really "get" poker one day, this ought to do it.
