Holz Wins $5m in WSOP $111k One Drop, Contemplates Retirement

At the age of just 22, there’s very little left for Fedor Holz to accomplish in the poker world.

The German phenom recorded his biggest score ever earlier tonight by winning the WSOP $111k One Drop Super High Roller for $4,981,775 at the Rio Hotel in Las Vegas.

The win comes on the heels of an already incredible summer that included some huge scores at the Aria for over $5m bringing his overall haul up to over $10,000,000.

“Normally I’m good with words but right now I don’t really know what to say,” said Holz after winning.

“I just feel so overwhelmed. I didn’t think it would be like this. I’m just in heaven right now.”

It was Holz first WSOP gold bracelet victory.

Holz Clears $18m in Earnings

At this point Holz has won more money playing poker tournaments than bonafide legends Doyle Brunson and Johnny Chan combined.

In total Holz has racked up $18.4 million since he started playing live tournaments in 2011. Prior to that Holz was dominating online tournaments and won millions as CrownUpGuy online.

Holz out-dueled fellow high-stakes endboss Dan Smith to win One Drop.

“I was extremely focused,” he said.

“I told my friends that this was going to be a very important week. I had a very intense feeling about this tournament. I think that’s what it meant so much to me. Overall it was probably one of the best experiences of my life.”

The final table also included high-stakes stars Jack Salter, Joe McKeehen, Nick Petrangelo and Scott Seiver.

Holz to Step Back from Poker

With $14.6m in earnings in 2016 alone, Holz is on of the all-time greatest heaters in poker history. He was humble about the streak, however.

“I’ve played a lot online and that helps you understand the variance pretty well,” he said.

“I know I’m just on a heater that will just happen once and I just try to appreciate it and enjoy my time while it lasts.”

In multiple interviews over the last year, Holz has been saying that he likely won’t stay in poker forever.

The massive win in One Drop didn’t sound like it would change his mind about possibly relinquishing his pro status in the game.

“I think now it’s time to take a break and re-orientate,” he said.

In total the 2016 WSOP $111k One Drop High Roller received 184 entries. Here’s a complete look at the final-table payouts:
