If you've ever made it through the full, 7-week WSOP you know a Vegas summer is a blistering hot, roller coaster grind that'll leave you more than spent at the end of it.
There's no poker event in the world just like it, but it does make most players who take part pack up the card protector and give poker a long break afterwards.
If you'd like to experience a softer, gentler version of that WSOP grind - without the 45 degree heat and the gold bracelets - head for Montreal next month where the Playground Poker Club has a lineup of poker that might only be rivalled by the WSOP.
From August 18-September 14 the Playground Club is offering $2m in guaranteed prize pools and over 28 events as part of its new World Cup of Cards festival.
To help kick things off the World Poker Tour also rolls into town for another edition of the much-loved WPT National Montreal from Aug. 19-25 with a $400,000 guarantee.
Affordable Buy-Ins, Big Action
If the WSOP grind all seems like a bit much, both financially and time-wise, the new World Cup of Cards offers a new kind of festival focused more on fun and value for the dollar.
Sponsored by partypoker and Tonybet, a quarter of the 28 events are non-Hold'em and the buy-ins, mostly $100-$300, reflect a much different price point than the WSOP.
There's still a lot of money to be made, though, and a few big buy-ins to keep the pros satisfied. Included among there are the $540+$60 WPT National Montreal, the $1,000+$100 NL Hold'em Canadian Grand Prix and $5,000 + $400 NL Hold'em 8-Max.
The Canadian Grand Prix, part of the new long-term partnership between partypoker and the Playground Poker Club, is a $500,000 guaranteed tournament with eight live Day 1 flights September 2-3.
In a unique crossover format, it will also have 20 online Day 1 flights starting August 7. Buy-in is just $100 + $9 buy-in to enter any Day 1, live or online.
Also on the schedule is the third annual Playground Poker Club All-Stars for Starlight event hosted by hockey legend Larry Robinson.
Needless to say the lineup is packed with unique events and big-time value from beginning to end. Check the full schedule here.
Multiple Cash Opportunities at WPT Montreal
The returning WPT National Montreal is also big on value with seven Day 1s and a $400,000 guarantee.
The format this year is an innovative one with 5% of each starting flight making it through to Day 2.
The means players will start cashing as of Day 1. And, since players can play multiple Day 1s, players can cash multiple times.
The full schedule for WPT Montreal can be found here.
Satellites for WPT Montreal and the World Cup of Cards are ongoing at partypoker and Day 1 flights for the Canadian Grand Prix begin August 7.
