Expectations were high for this year's GUKPT Goliath main event after lest year's 4,000+ entries.
This year's festival took it to another level altogether.
Over the past weekend the 2016 Goliath Main Event drew a staggering 5,232 entries - over 1,000 more than last year's event - to build a massive £523,200 prize pool.
After a three-handed deal that secured each player claim over £50,000, IT consultant Vamshi Vandanapu took home the top prize of £62,750 and the coveted GUKPT Goliath trophy.
IT Streak Hits 2
Vandanapu, an IT consultant in London, is the second consecutive IT worker to win the event after Miikka Toikka won in 2015.
A local at The Poker Room above Grosvenor Casino Victoria, Vandanapu was taken aback by defeating such a massive field:
“I never imagined I’d be the remaining one. I just played it one hand at a time,” he said.
44 year old Irishman Robbie Richwood finished second and 33 year old Cristian Popescu third.
Both took home exactly £50,000 after the deal.
On an original £120 buy-in that's a substantial return on investment.
