Chalk another one up for MTT master James “mig.com” Mackey.
Mackey outlasted 1,066 players to win WPT Choctaw last night for a very sizable purse of $681,758.
Now 30, Mackey was at one point the youngest player to ever win a WSOP event in Las Vegas when he took down his first bracelet in 2007.
With the win Mackey moved to $3.6m in lifetime live tournament earnings.
Zamani, Varnell Fall Short
Former WSOP bracelet winner Benjamin Zamani was also looking to add a WPT title to his poker resume but was unable to get past Mackey heads-up.
In the final hand Mackey’s pocket eights were more than enough to beat Zamani’s pocket fives and lock up the tournament.
Zumani had to settle for a $412k consolation prize.
Meanwhile former WPT500 winner Craig Varnell had a very deep run that finally ended in third place for $306,346.
With the victory Mackey took a very early lead in the WPT POY leaderboard this season with 1,200 points.
Here’s at the complete payouts for the final table (first place includes a $15k seat to the WPT Tournament of Champions):
